Transmission diagnostics: find it before you fix it
Every job at our shop starts here. A transmission that slips, shudders or throws a code can have half a dozen causes, and guessing is expensive. We check the fluid, pull the codes, drive it and test it, then tell you what is actually wrong.

Level, color and smell. Burnt, dark fluid with debris tells a different story than clean fluid at the right level.

Good to know
- A code names a circuit, not a part. The road test and pressure checks are what turn a code into a repair.
- Tell us what you noticed and when: cold starts, highway speed, towing, after a fluid service. It shortens the diagnosis.
- Ask about the diagnostic when you call; we will tell you how it is handled on the estimate.

What does a transmission diagnostic include?
Fluid level and condition, a scan for transmission and engine codes, a road test, and pressure or electrical tests where the symptom calls for them. You get the finding in writing.
Can you diagnose over the phone?
We can tell you whether the symptom sounds urgent, but a real diagnosis needs the car: the fluid, the codes and a road test.
Do you check transmissions on used cars before purchase?
