Manual transmission and clutch repair
Manual gearboxes and clutches wear in predictable ways: a clutch that slips or will not release, grinding into a gear, a bearing that howls, a leak at the input or output. We repair manual transmissions and replace clutches for cars and light trucks at our Cutler Bay shop.

Manual and clutch symptoms
- Engine revs climb but the car does not pull: a slipping clutch
- Hard to get into gear, or grinding into one gear in particular: synchro or clutch release
- A whine or rumble in neutral that goes away with the pedal down: release or input bearing
- Pedal feel that changed: soft, high, or sticking
- Gear oil on the ground under the transmission

How we handle it

Diagnose
Road test, pedal and linkage check, and a look at the hydraulics before deciding it is the clutch.

Clutch replacement
Disc, pressure plate and release bearing as a set, flywheel inspected and resurfaced or replaced as needed.

Gearbox repair
Synchros, bearings, seals and shift forks replaced on the bench, the same way we rebuild automatics.

Fill and road test
The correct gear oil, and a drive through every gear before hand-back.

Good to know
- Replacing only the disc on a worn set is a short-lived repair; we replace the set.
- A slipping clutch can also be a hydraulic problem. We check the master and slave before pulling the transmission.

Questions we get asked
How do I know if my clutch is going?
Slipping under acceleration, a change in pedal feel, difficulty getting into gear, or a burning smell after hard use. A road test confirms it.
Do you rebuild manual transmissions?
Yes. Synchros, bearings, seals and shift components are replaced on the bench, then the unit is filled with the right gear oil and road-tested.
